East Bayshore Road will be closed to vehicular traffic at San Francisquito Creek over the weekend of September 7 - 9 in order to allow for the relocation of an underground 96-inch storm drain pipeline.
Specifically, the road will be closed continuously from 9 PM on Friday, September 7 through 5 AM on Monday, September 10.
Palo Alto motorists are advised to use Highway 101 and University Avenue to access East Bayshore Road in East Palo Alto north of San Francisquito Creek during the closure. Detour signage will be posted to direct traffic along alternate traffic routes. Continuous access along East Bayshore Road through the work zone will be provided for bicyclists, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles. Continuous access will be provided to the Post Office and all East Bayshore Road businesses during the road closure.
The road closure is required due to the large construction equipment and pipeline materials being used for the project. Con-Quest Contractors, under contract with the City of Palo Alto Public Works Department, will be relocating the storm drain pipeline in order to eliminate a conflict with the future Caltrans project to replace the Highway 101 and East and West Bayshore Road bridges over San Francisquito Creek. The Caltrans project, scheduled to start in 2014, will increase the flow capacity of the creek beneath these roadways.
