The Planning & Transportation Commission's primary responsibilities include:
- Preparing and making recommendations to the City Council on the City's Comprehensive Plan regarding development, public facilities and transportation in Palo Alto
- Considering and making recommendations to the City Council on zoning map and zoning ordinance changes
- Reviewing and making recommendations to the City Council on subdivisions, on appeals on variances and use permits
- Considering other policies and programs affecting development and land use in Palo Alto for final City Council action
The Commission is composed of seven members who are not Council Members, officers, or employees of the City, and who are residents of the City of Palo Alto. Terms are for four years and commence on August 1. See Palo Alto Municipal Code (PAMC) Sections 2.16 and 16.48. Palo Alto residency is a requirement. Regular meetings are at 6:00 p.m. on the second and last Wednesdays of each month and are cablecast live on Government Channel 26.
