Terrorism Information

Terrorist incidents involving the use of explosive and incendiary devices and nuclear, chemical or biological weapons can pose a serious threat to metropolitan areas. Our city joins a nationwide effort working to develop their capacity to respond to events such as these.

In light of recent events, Palo Alto remains on a High Alert status. There are currently no emergencies in Palo Alto. We are readying our emergency personnel to respond to any emergency.

Recognizing the need to prepare, City departments, such as the Police, the Fire, Public Works, and Utilities, along with the local hospitals, American Red Cross, PAUSD, Stanford Research Park Businesses, Environmental Health & Safety groups Stanford University, and special districts, work hand-in-hand with state and federal agencies in the event of a terrorist incident.

We encourage preparedness based on earthquakes, because an earthquake triggers many events. An earthquake will cause fires, floods, hazardous material releases, collapsed buildings, etc. It is an "all-hazard" disaster. Therefore, preparing for earthquakes, prepares you for most disasters. A good home emergency plan lends itself to protect you and your family against all disasters.
