City Engagement

Overview

The City of Palo Alto has been actively involved with High Speed Rail (HSR) since 2008 when California voters first approved funding. However, as issues with the project have emerged, Palo Alto has taken steps to ensure this project is done right.

The Palo Alto City Council and the Palo Alto City Council HSR Committee are officials representing Palo Alto. In addition, Palo Alto is also a member of two regional groups working on HSR – the Peninsula Cities Consortium (PCC) and the Peninsula Rail Program (PRP).

In all of these groups Palo Alto representatives, either elected officials or city staff, are submitting formal responses to the numerous reports released by the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA). The most common of those reports are either Environmental Review or Alternatives Analysis (AA) reports. However, in both cases the Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process methodology of solving transit related problems is applied.
