Risk & Deployment

Palo Alto Fire Department Standards of Cover

The Standards of Cover is a data-driven and objective planning process that;

1)            Measures and prioritizes the fire, rescue and emergency medical services risks in the community
2)            Evaluates and prioritizes the Fire Department resources to manage or reduce the identified
               community risks
3)            Identifies and establishes objective prevention and deployment strategies to meet established
               performance standards and adopted response policies
4)            Ensures a safe and effective response force for fire suppression, emergency medical services
               and specialty response situations
5)            Informs policy makers, government leaders and the public about the community’s risks and
               capabilities of the fire department to operate within the available resources

The Palo Alto Fire Department is now a part of PulsePoint, an application for your smartphone and other mobile devices that allows you to monitor our calls and possibly assist neighbors in need.  The PulsePoint application identifies nearby Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) and notifies all trained personnel if there is a cardiac event in which they may be able to assist while professional response is requested.  This application also transmits all of our calls for service and allows you to listen to the radio traffic if you would like to hear dispatches and responses.  If you would like to find out more or download this application, go to http://www.pulsepoint.org
