The Art Center is excited to debut The Art Cart—an activity cart filled with art supplies and activities for use in and outside our galleries! Created after more than a year of research and planning, the Cart is intended to provide families with engaging creative activities they can do together.
The idea for the Cart emerged from Art Center audience research, which revealed that caretakers wanted activities they could do with children in our galleries. Starting with this prompt, Art Center educators, Cart designer Elinoar Almagor, and researcher Melissa Standen started to develop plans and prototypes for activities that could engage families beyond one exhibition, even into our open spaces and at home. Activities were tested at family events and then refined, with the idea that additional activities could be added in the future.
“The Art Cart really involves kids and adults in the artistic process, engaging them in looking, and finding inspiration in everything around them—from art in our exhibitions to plants in our Sculpture Garden” says Lucy Larson, Director of Education for the Art Center.
Stop by the Art Center during regular business hours and try out the Art Cart for yourself! Play a game, enjoy a drawing activity inside or outside, or discover your inner author. Find it in front of the main gallery.
The Art Cart was generously supported by an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant.
