Welcome to the Utilities Department. Valerie Fong is the department director. The City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) is the only city-owned utility in California that operates its own utilities including electric, fiber optic, natural gas, water and wastewater services. CPAU has been providing quality services to the citizens and businesses of Palo Alto since 1896.    

  

New Construction – Engineering & Operations

Look here for information if you need a new electric, water, gas or wastewater service or a meter installation due to new construction, addition or remodeling of a building in Palo Alto.

Upcoming Changes for Solar Electric (PV) CustomersA new state law is requiring a change in how customers who have solar electric or PV systems get credited for their system's generation.  We need to hear from you on how you wish to receive this credit.
Changes to Landscape Efficiency RequirementsState legislation has required changes to the Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (WELO).  Find out what requirements are now and how the City may adopt revisions to its current ordinance.
Water Cloudiness Does Not Impact SafetyDue to work on the water supply system, there may be a slight and temporary change in your water through January 2010.  This will not impact its safety or quality.
5th Annual GREENLIGHT Film FestivalGREENLIGHT Earth Day Film Festival Call for Entries. Students and adults are invited to make and submit your own environmental-themed movie.  Deadline is March 26, 2010.
