The Clean Up Day and the Business Clean-Out Service are available to help you properly dispose of unwanted items.

The annual on-call Clean Up Day is a service for Palo Alto residents and businesses.

The Business Clean-Out Service is available for businesses that are temporarily generating more recyclables than their regular recycling service can accommodate.

Resident in Single-Family Home

Residents are encouraged to donate all reusable items prior to scheduling their Clean Up Day. The Recyclopedia lists resources for reusing and recycling many common items such as electronic equipment, flower pots, building materials and more!

How It Works
  • Schedule your Clean Up Day by calling GreenWaste at (650) 493-4894 at least one week in advance.
  • One on-call pick up, per calendar year, on your regular garbage day, for the collection of bulky items and excess containerized materials (see bullets below for more information).
  • Up to four (4) bulky items (e.g., furniture, mattresses, appliances) with a weight limit of 200 pounds each.
  • Excess containerized recyclables, yard trimmings and garbage (container will not be returned). Total weight of each container must be less than 60 pounds.
  • Individual items no larger than 4' x 4' x 3' and weighing less than 60 pounds.  
  • For safety purposes, tape closed or securely tie doors of all appliances.
    Place bulky items separately from the rest of your material at the curb. A different collection vehicle will pick up bulky items.
  • Additional bulky items will be collected at City-established rates.
  • Place all materials at the curb by 6 AM on your normal collection day.
  • Hazardous waste, tires, automobile parts, construction materials such as rocks, dirt and concrete will not be collected.

Business or Resident in Multi-Unit Complex     

Businesses and multi-unit complex property managers are encouraged to seek reuse options for all reusable items prior to scheduling this service. The Recyclopedia lists resources for reusing and recycling many common items such as electronic equipment, flower pots, building materials and more!

Business Clean-Out Service

This service is for a temporary business clean-out or file purge that creates more recyclables than your regular recycling service can accommodate.

How It Works
  • Schedule your Clean-Out Service by calling GreenWaste at (650) 493-4894.
  • Up to two 2-cubic yard locking bins will be delivered. You will be provided with a key.
  • Only recyclables accepted in GreenWaste’s recycling program can be placed in the bins. Your business is responsible for proper bin usage.
  • Available up to five (5) days per calendar year, at no additional cost, for businesses with a Refuse account. Multi-tenant commercial buildings require account holder authorization.  
  • GreenWaste will empty full bins, with 24-hour notice, Monday through Saturday.
