Hazardous Waste Programs
The Public Works Operations division manages the hazardous waste programs for the City of Palo Alto. This includes management of City generated wastes as well as providing sound disposal options for residents and small businesses.
The Household Hazardous Waste Management program provides Palo Alto residents with an environmentally safe, convenient way to dispose of unwanted hazardous household products-such as paints, solvents, fuels, cleaners, pesticides, etc., which contain hazardous substances.
The City also offers other ways to dispose of a few selected household hazardous wastes.
The City's Recycling Program accepts antifreeze, motor oil, used oil filters, household batteries, auto batteries, fluorescent light tubes and other recyclables.
The Recycling Drop-off Center is located at 2380 Embarcadero Road and is open seven days a week, from 8am until 5pm.
The Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP) accepts photographic waste and mercury containing thermometers and thermostats during Monday through Friday from 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.
