The Organics Yard is located at the Palo Alto Landfill at 2380 Embarcadero, at the East end of Embarcadero Road. To get there, take Embarcadero Road east to the end of the road by the Bay. At the Stop sign, turn right. The Palo Alto Landfill is straight-ahead right after the Recycling Drop-Off Center.

The City of Palo Alto is pleased to announce the opening of The Organics Yard. The focus of this business is to enhance the recycling efforts of the community by offering high quality blended soil amendments. The core feedstock of these amendments is the organic compost processed from the local communities' green waste. Our blends are professionally formulated specifically for this area.

History of Composting at the Palo Alto Landfill
The City of Palo Alto for the last 27 years has run a successful green waste diversion and recovery program at the landfill site off Embarcadero Road. The majority of the municipally collected green waste has been composted at the landfill and then sold as composting feedstock to off-site nurseries, local businesses and farmers.

Products
Soil Amendments in general are best used when blended in with your existing soil. We recommend applying 2 to 3 inches of a soil amendment and turning or tilling it into 3 to 4 inches of the existing soil. Follow with a thorough deep watering to insure the best results.

• Topsoil Blend
  Comprised of compost and sandy loam, this product is an excellent soil amendment and lends itself for use in raised beds, such as vegetable or ornamental flower gardens. Another excellent application is for prepping the existing ground prior to seeding or installing a sod lawn.

• Deco Top Dressing Mulch
  Made from wood chips and colored for a natural appearance, this material can be used for erosion control, ornamental applications and weed suppression. The use of the material also helps conserve water.

• Palo Alto Compost
