Embarcadero Bike Path After ten years of planning, the Embarcadero Bike Path officially opened in May 2004. The new path runs behind Palo Alto High School, Town and Country Village, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. It is lighted and separated from the train right-of-way by a security fence. Entrances are located on Churchill Avenue, Embarcadero Road and Encina Avenue. The new path and bike bridge over Embarcadero Road complete the existing north-south bike route from Mountain View to Menlo Park along segments of Wilkie Way, Park Boulevard, Southgate neighborhood streets, and the El Camino Park bike path.
Homer Undercrossing The Homer Avenue Caltrain Undercrossing for pedestrians and bicyclists opened in 2004. The tunnel enables bicyclists and pedestrians to cross under the Caltrain tracks between the South of Forest Area (SOFA) neighborhood and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF). The structure is 18 feet wide and 70 feet long with lighting and two skylights. The tunnel connects with the new Embarcadero bike path on the west side of railroad tracks that extends north to the University Avenue Caltrain Station and south to Churchill Avenue.
Bicycle Boulevard Studies The Transportation Division is currently working on planning studies for two of the bike boulevard corridors identified in the Bicycle Transportation Plan:
Park Boulevard/Maclane/Wilkie Way Bicycle Boulevard
El Camino Way/Maybell/Donald Drive Bicycle Boulevard
