The shuttle program operates Monday through Friday during commute and midday hours. In recent years, the shuttle program expanded to serve more community needs, including improved service to the three middle schools and two high schools, all day service on the Crosstown shuttle, and more frequent commute service to and from the Caltrain station on the Embarcadero shuttle.
Crosstown Shuttle
The basic Crosstown Shuttle runs every half hour from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from Downtown Palo Alto to East Charleston Road. It connects residential neighborhoods, senior residences and services, libraries, recreation centers, commercial districts and Caltrain.
Alert for Gunn and Terman students regarding Crosstown Shuttle route change
Beginning on August 25, 2008, the Crosstown shuttle extension to the Ventura neighborhood, Terman Middle School, Gunn High School and the VA Hospital will be discontinued. The route will be replaced with expanded service on VTA Community Bus Line 88. The VTA will operate Line 88 along Louis Road, Charleston Road and Arastradero Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. In addition, there will be limited bell time service on Line 88M and Line 88L from the Midtown and Ventura neighborhoods along Loma Verde, Waverley, East Meadow, West Meadow and El Camino Way, and Arastradero Road to the schools. The Community Bus fares are $.50 for youths and $1.00 for adults. For more information go to http://www.vta.org/schedules/SC_88.html or call VTA Customer Service at 1-800-894-9908.
Embarcadero Shuttle
The Embarcadero Shuttle runs every 15 minutes during commute hours and is coordinated with the Caltrain schedule. It serves employers in the Embarcadero/Baylands area, residents in the Embarcadero Road corridor and students at Palo Alto High School. One Embarcadero shuttle trip in the morning and afternoon is deviated to serve Jordan Middle School.
Through a cooperative venture of the City and Stanford University, the Stanford Marguerite Downtown Express shuttle offers midday service from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every 20 minutes to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) on El Camino Real, Town and Country Shopping Center, Stanford Medical Center, the Cantor Center and the Main Quad. The City's Crosstown Shuttle and Downtown Express share a common bus stop at Alma and Lytton. Riders can also catch the Downtown Express at the Marguerite bus stop on Emerson Street opposite Lytton Plaza.
