Green Building Financial Incentives

Research shows that it can cost an estimated 0-8% of the total project cost to comply with the Palo Alto Green Building Program, however owners can recoup over three times that investment through annual operational savings in their energy, water and waste bills, and through improved worker health and productivity. Local and nationally incentives are available to supplement the initial investment necessary to go green.  Below is a list of available rebates and incentives listed by those that apply to residential and non-residential projects.

Applicants are required to follow the actual program requirements provided by the incentive administrators. If the administrators requirements differ than those in the table, those supersede any listed below.


RESIDENTIAL INCENTIVES and REBATES

 The City of Palo Alto Utilities offers residents multiple money-saving opportunities, including rebates for Energy Star appliances, rewards for exceeding the green building requirements, solar power incentives, and a free fridge pick-up service.  The Public Works Department offers residents up to $1,000 for installing rain barrels, permeable pavements, cisterns, and green roofs. Please visit the Storm Water Rebates page to learn more.

 The Santa Clara Valley Water District offers up to $1,000 in rebates for installing efficient irrigation systems, toilets, clothes washers, and water softeners. Residents can also receive free water audits, showerheads, and faucets. Please visit the district’s Water Conservation page for more information.

NON RESIDENTIAL INCENTIVES and REBATES

 The City of Palo Alto Utilities offers multiple programs for businesses, including free energy surveys, rebates for updated energy efficient equipment, and solar power incentives. Please visit the Business Rebates page for more information.

 The Public Works Department offers businesses up to $10,000 for installing rain barrels, permeable pavements, cisterns, and green roofs. Please visit the Storm Water Rebates page to learn more.
