Why apply for the City of Palo Alto’s Management Fellows Program?
Known as the “Birthplace of Silicon Valley,” the City of Palo Alto is an exciting and innovative place to participate in the Management Fellows Program. The program is designed to allow individuals who are interested in a career in local government to “sample” the different areas of the city during their 4 month rotations through three different departments. Fellows participate in management level work and receive tremendous support and guidance from top city leaders who serve as mentors to the fellows. The City of Palo Alto is an excellent place to work on issues that directly engage the community of approximately 61,200 residents. The breadth of this experience during the one year program not only prepares the fellows for a variety of careers within local government, but also puts them at a competitive advantage in the job market.
What are the requirements for applying?
Applicants must be current or recent Master’s Degree graduates who have earned or will earn their degree by July 2010.
Can I apply if I have a bachelor’s degree and work experience?
The Management Fellows Program is limited to individuals who possess a Master’s degree or are enrolled in a Master’s program. Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree who are interested in working for the City of Palo Alto should look into the City’s undergraduate level internships. The City does not guarantee a job at the conclusion of the fellowship; however, great strides will be made to ensure that fellows are in a competitive position for employment upon the completion of the program.

How many fellows are selected for the program?
It varies from year to year.
How are the rotations decided?
The recruitment committee will determine the rotations based on the candidate’s background, education, and work experience. Candidates can state their preferences, but a placement in his/her preferred rotation is not guaranteed.
