Jean Oda Moy is the American-born daughter of Japanese immigrants. She studied Japanese at Stanford University and Psychiatric Social Work at UC Berkeley. She has worked as a clinical social worker, a teacher and a translator of Japanese literature into English. Her memoir fascinates readers with its rarely heard perspective on the experience of an American-born Japanese young woman caught between cultures in World War II and postwar Japan. This highly personal tale of world historical events testifies to the power of writing to remember the past and to heal emotional wounds.
