Playing Field Closure Advisory

Rain Closure Policy

Athletic use of fields when wet or saturated may cause extensive field damage resulting in extended field closure and costly renovations.

The following procedure applies to period of rainfall, over-watered fields and/or in the event of an irrigation break.

  • A rainout hotline (650-329-2697) is updated daily. In the event of any rainfall prior to your use, please call the hotline to determine whether the fields are playable.
  • City and school district playing fields are closed anytime during a heavy rainfall (1/4" during a 24-hour period) and are usually closed for a minimum period of 48 hours.
  • Additional closure time may be needed if there have been heavy rains and the fields are saturated.
  • Failure to abide by these policies will result in forfeiture of field reservation deposits, loss of use of the fields, and/or a fine of up to $250 per person per violation.

The following field facilities are currently closed:
March 14, 2008

  • Baylands Athletic Center – baseball and softball fields are closed January 1, 2008 to May 1, 2008 for replacement of fencing; building new dug-outs; renovation of in-field
    Project Manager: Chris Rafferty 650-329-2475
Use of the field is permitted with reservations during construction. The dug-outs will be open in mid-March.

Some field repairs and closures require the use of temporary fences to secure the area during renovation or reseeding.  For your safety and the care of the turf, please do not enter fenced areas.

Please call 650-329-2413 if you witness anyone not permitted to be within the closed area.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
