Junior Museum and Zoo

girl is nose to nose with bobcats

The Junior Museum & Zoo is a place where children and their caregivers come to explore, discover, create and play.  Through hands-on science exhibits and a diverse community of live animals, we seek to engage a child's curiosity for science and nature.

The Zoo is home to more than 50 species of animals--about 200 specimens in all--many of which are brought into classrooms as part of the Junior Museum & Zoo's science outreach program with local schools. Some of the animals include bobcats, raccoons, jungle bats, hedgehogs, ferrets, snakes, fresh and salt water fish and invertebrates, a red tail hawk and other birds.

We offer a menagerie of science programs for schools and community groups, as well as classes, summer camps and birthday parties for families.

Buzzzz - Our newest exhibit now open!
Have you heard the "buzzzz" about our newest exhibition? It's all about bugs! This summer, children can jump, crawl and wiggle into a bug's world through a multi-sensory, hands-on exhibit that brings you face to face with insects, spiders, millipedes and other arthropods. Exhibit highlights include living animals, as well as preserved specimens from our insect collection and specimens on loan from the Essig Museum of UC Berkeley. Come check it out!  Click here to view a special video about Buzz!http://smu.gs/nYBWLE
