| The Junior Museum & Zoo is a place where children and their caregivers come to explore, discover, create and play. Through hands-on science exhibits and a diverse community of live animals, we seek to engage a child's curiosity for science and nature. The Zoo is home to more than 50 species of animals--about 200 specimens in all--many of which are brought into classrooms as part of the Junior Museum & Zoo's science outreach program with local schools. Some of the animals include bobcats, raccoons, jungle bats, hedgehogs, ferrets, snakes, fresh and salt water fish and invertebrates, a red tail hawk and other birds. We offer a menagerie of science programs for schools and community groups, as well as classes, summer camps and birthday parties for families. Construction Under Way Bobcat Ridge Opening June 2010! Construction has begun on Bobcat Ridge. Parts of the Zoo are closed, and some animals have been moved to temporary homes. We will also be upgrading our paving and signage throughout the Zoo. The Bat Cave is also currenly closed. Ten Egyptian Fruit bats have joined the JMZ family. For health reasons, they must live in quarantine before we can introduce them to our African Straw bats. The Bat Cave will reopen by June. | | | |
