Adult Education at the Art Center

Classes and Workshops
The Art Center offers more than 150 fine art classes, workshops and master-artist opportunities annually. Adult programs are open to students of all levels and are held in the Art Center's professionally equipped studios. Classes and workshops are taught in a variety of media including ceramics, painting, drawing, collage, digital art, book making, and more! Over 30 weekly classes are offered each quarter, meeting once a week for ten weeks during the fall, winter and spring sessions and for five weeks during the summer session. Workshops are offered each session as a supplement to our weekly, core classes and vary in length from one-day, two-day and weeklong workshops.

Open Studios
Open studio programs are available on an ongoing, drop-in basis for a nominal fee in painting, life drawing, jewelry and enameling. No formal instruction is provided. Open studios provide a unique opportunity to work independently with other students and artists.

Surviving and Thriving as an Artist
Presenting workshops and open forums since 1986, this unique program provides Bay Area participants with the skills and knowledge essential in dealing with the problems and challenges of being an artist. In addition, Surviving and Thriving offers an opportunity to network with other people in the arts community. Past workshops have included Marketing and Grant writing for Artists, Photographing your Artwork, Taxation and How to Mat and Frame your Artwork.

Drawing Marathons
Participants can draw, paint or sculpt from a variety of models at these all-day drawing marathons held throughout the year in the art studios of the Palo Alto Art Center. The event features nude and clothed models posing for twenty minute to one hour periods, including individual, couple and group poses. Proceeds benefit the Palo Alto Models' Guild.
