Description:
Emerson School is a division of Early Learning Institute. It is a private, year-round elementary school serving children ages 6 (first grade) through 14 (eighth grade). The educational program comprises a self-paced, individualized curriculum that continues and expands upon the Montessori curriculum employed in the preschool program. The program emphasizes a balance of broad-based skills (physical, social, emotional, intellectual, creative), while building excellent technical skills in the fundamental academic areas of reading, writing, speaking, and numeracy (number literacy). It encourages the development of personal characteristics that facilitate learning: persistence, curiosity, independence, and creativity. It also incorporates subjects that are either non-traditional or are neglected by other schools, such as music and movement, interpersonal communications, art, human values and cultures, and practical life skills such as cooking, recycling, and first aid. Finally, the program offers other support services that respond directly to the individual needs of parents and children. To ensure consideration for the academic year beginning in early September, applications must be submitted by March. Applications will be accepted throughout the year for openings that occur during the year.
