Description: SALA provides free legal services and community education to Santa Clara County residents who are age 60 or older to support local elders in their efforts to remain independent. SALA specializes in these types of legal matters and accepts cases in these areas as our resources allow: Public Benefits (Social Security and SSI (except disability cases), Medicare, Medi-Cal, In Home Support Services); Elder Abuse (restraining or protective orders (for elder abuse or domestic violence); Lodger Statue Evictions, revocation of powers of attorney (for fiduciary abuse)); Consumer (Medicare HMO or supplemental insurance disputes, long-term care insurance problems); Long Term Care (nursing home and residential care/assisted living issues, alternatives to instututionalization); Housing (landlord-tenant, subsidized/senior housing, mobile home residency); Incapacity Planning (advance health care directives, health care powers of attorney, uniform statutory form powers of attorney); Probate Alternatives (death of joint tenant affidavits, small estate affidavits (for estates valued at $100,000 or less); Simple Wills for elders with modest assets (formal wills (through SALA's no fee wills panel); California Statutory wills, holographic wills).
