Description: Pre-School Family is a program in which the parent and child come to school together once a week. At age two or three the child may begin coming alone on additional days. At age four, a child may attend four days a week. Parents take an active part, with teacher guidance, in developing playing/ learning centers. The parent, as the teacher's aide, learns child development and at the same time, has the opportunity to spend quality time with his or her child. Parent Discussion Classes are part of the program. The discussion class meetings give each parent a chance to understand and know more about their relationship with their children and his/her development. Topics include: development characteristics of a given age group, conflict resolution, setting limits, nutrition, play, routines for children, self-esteem, parenting styles, and needs of parents. Parents are the registered students in the Palo Alto Adult School's Pre-School Family program. Registration is held each April. Semesters begin each September and February.
