|Palo Alto, CA -- A vehicle struck a pedestrian this morning in the Barron Park neighborhood of Palo Alto.|
On Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at about 7:49 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call from a juvenile driver who reported that they had just struck a pedestrian in the 3800 block of La Donna Avenue. Officers and personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department responded immediately, and found a woman in her thirties unconscious and with major injuries. Personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department transported her to a local hospital, where she remains. No update on her condition is currently available.
The juvenile driver remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators. They have not been arrested or cited, as the investigation is still ongoing. The driver was not injured. No additional information about the driver is being released, in accordance with standard operating procedures involving juveniles.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking her young child to school at the time of the collision. The child was not struck and was not physically injured. No additional information about the victim or her child is being released.
The collision is currently under investigation, and no cause has been determined. Personnel from the Palo Alto Police Department's Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team are handling the investigation. Police will release additional information as it becomes available.
The Palo Alto Police Department has been in contact with the Palo Alto Unified School District to share information about the case, and we are working collaboratively with them in an effort to solicit any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
