|Palo Alto, CA – The City announced today that Houman Boussina, Senior Performance Auditor, has been appointed as Acting City Auditor while a national search is conducted for a new City Auditor. Boussina replaces City Auditor Jim Pelletier who left for a new career opportunity in Florida after 20 months with Palo Alto. Boussina, who has been with the City since June of 2010, will serve as City Auditor and receive a 10% boost above current salary (from $110,000 to $121,264) until the new City Auditor is appointed.|
"I have full confidence in Houman's ability to successfully fill the City Auditor role while the Council searches for a permanent replacement," said departing City Auditor Pelletier. “Houman has over eight years of local government audit experience and was a Performance Auditor at the City and County of San Francisco.”
Boussina has conducted audits covering a variety of subject areas including contract management and compliance, effectiveness and efficiency of business processes and information systems, use of government funds, and investigations. Boussina has emphasized use of computer-assisted audited techniques and database analytic procedures in audit work that has resulted in high impact audits, including two audits that received the prestigious Knighton Award from the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA). Boussina was a Performance Auditor at the City and County of San Francisco and was promoted to Audit Manager prior to joining Palo Alto.
Boussina has a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Sciences from the University of the Pacific and a Master of Science in Accountancy from San Jose State University. Boussina is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), a Certified Internal Systems Auditor (CISA), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and a Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP). He also has been awarded by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) the Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and the William S. Smith Certificate of Honor for a high score on the CIA examination.
“During my three years at the Office of the City Auditor, I have enjoyed working with my Palo Alto colleagues on behalf of the City,” said Boussina. “I am excited to have this opportunity to keep the momentum going and lead this talented team during this interim period.”
