Palo Alto, CA – Palo Alto City Library announces the launch of its new mobile catalog through Library Anywhere. Mobile device users can now search the catalog, place holds, check their accounts, renew items, locate library branches, browse library event listings, contact a librarian and use other mobile services available through the library. The mobile catalog works with Android, BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and any mobile phone with a web browser.
The Library Anywhere mobile catalog operates through popular web browsers. Free downloadable Android and iPhone apps are also available through the Android Market and the Apple App Store respectively. There are several ways to find Palo Alto City Library’s mobile catalog on Library Anywhere. Mobile users can point the mobile web browser to www.libanywhere.com or download the app, then either browse for the Palo Alto City Library system or find a library nearby. The traditional web catalog will now offer a clickable "mobile" tab to take mobile users directly to this service. Finally, mobile users can go straight to the mobile catalog at https://www.libanywhere.com/m/299
Mobile Internet use is growing rapidly and is projected to overtake desktop Internet use in the future according to Morgan Stanley researchers. The Pew Internet & American Life Project reports that six in ten Americans now go online wirelessly, with younger generations leading in use of cell phone data applications but older adults demonstrating double-digit year-to-year increases in mobile use. "The Palo Alto City Library recognizes the increasing demand for mobile services in our technologically savvy community. We are excited to offer our customers a new way to conveniently access the library anywhere they are using their favorite mobile devices," said Martha Walters, Business Analyst.
