|Palo Alto, CA – Police are on the lookout for a man observed masturbating yesterday on a popular walking path in Bol Park, immediately adjacent to Gunn High School.|
On Thursday, May 25, 2017, at about 8:20 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from security personnel at Gunn High School at 780 Arastradero Road of a report of an in-progress indecent exposure incident. Officers responded to the area immediately, but could not locate the suspect.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had been seated on a bench on a walking path in Bol Park at 3590 Laguna Avenue. The path runs immediately adjacent to Gunn High School. The bench upon which the man was seated faced the football field. School security personnel observed the man masturbating from a vantage point on campus. While they called police to report the act, another staff member took a cell phone video of the suspect's actions and provided that to police. A still image of the suspect from that video is attached to this release.
The area in which the suspect was seated was separated from the path by some bushes, such that people on the path passing by behind him would not have been able to see what he was doing. The video shows at least two people (one likely a female teenager, the other likely an adult male) passing behind the suspect, but the suspect made no effort to communicate with them or call attention to himself. Police are not aware of anyone who witnessed this incident other than the two school staff members.
The suspect is an male of unknown race and age who appears to be light-skinned, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was wearing light-colored blue jeans, and a gray hooded sweatshirt. The hood was over the suspect’s head the entire time, such that no details on his face are visible. Police will not be releasing the video publicly.
On September 30, 2016, there was another lewd conduct incident along the same path, but further north towards Bol Park. The news release on that case, which included a sketch of the suspect by a police artist, can be found here. That case remains unsolved, with no suspects identified. Police do not know if the same suspect is responsible for both crimes.
